The SNOWBLIND 3D -team is looking for your ideas and comments. Join and show your support for SNOWBLIND 3D. Press Stuff & Marketing - THE LAUNCH
DescriptionPeople, after two years of hard work the day has finally come - Snowblind will be released on the web in the first week of November! That means THIS WEEK!!!* The SD version of the film (480p) will become available on various platforms, which we'll reveal once they start their rotation. The HD version and all the bonus content will be sold for low prices so we can hopefully make back the money we put into Snowblind, so we can shoot Vampyre Princess 3D with that money :D Since we're really reduced to a core team due to completely running out of money, we're depending on you to help us push this thing to a rolling start! Any ideas what we can do to get some media (preferrably online) coverage are much appreciated! So let us know, which websites, blogs and communities should we contact? What forums and networks are you a member of that you can post in? Also, we could use some ideas how to convince people to give us coverage - for example, in Germany the film "Machete" is released this thursday. We hope this will help to get more understanding for the concept of Grindhouse by local media. What strategies could we use to benefit from the launch of this similar-minded film? We are open to all ideas and very thankful for your participation :D Thanks,
ShotsSnowblind On The Air, Again! The large south-german youth radio station "ON3" has done another little report on Snowblind and it's humble creators ;-) It's only about 3 minutes long and I get to say something like two sentences - as the new German CC movie "ExoDos" is also a topic that gets some air time. http://on3.de/element/10757/creative-commons-statt-urheberrecht-lizenzen-aus-dem-baukasten Strange result considering the interview took 30 minutes, and my second statement is even put into a wrong context, but hey. Any publicity is good publicity, and we're very thankful to ON3 because they really made it a habit to report on Snowblind every other month :D Unbekonwnst to us, they had mentioned Snowblind again in mid-2010, after doing a TV and radio interview with us in the beginning of that year. The article is actually about the YouTube project "The Life In A Day".... still they do not fail to put our names on one level with Ridley Scott and big-time German director Sönke Wortmann 8D http://on3.de/element/6759/the-life-in-a-day-youtube-fame-auf-dem-naechsten-level Well I think this is really something to write your mum a postcard about ^_^ So thanks ON3, you have our eternal gratitude...!
Kalle-Max ^_^ CommentsThat's true, all work on Snowblind has (thankfully) been concluded. Still we'll be happy to keep your contact for future reference =) The movie is already finished. Snowblind in Deadline MagazineFor our German-able friends (Seppo!), here's a scan of yesterday's Deadline Magazine. It's a pretty good fanzine with a focus on Horror films, appearing bimonthly in good, heavy-weight printing quality. This issue is special cause it marks the 25th anniversary, and that in the hard times of "print is dead"! So all you Germany-based movie fans (or Austria and Switzerland for that matter) run out to your local dealer and grab a copy to support those guys =) Oh and yeah about the content of the review, it is very favorable, saying the only weak point of the film would be that the pacing could be tightened. Everything else from acting to camerawork and effects was well liked, concluding in an overall rating of "very good" :D Cheers,
Comments@KMH And the same people who cut the masterpieces wonder why the other people streams from the net.. (not me, I've just heard :D ) Yeah TV is the worst when it comes to cuts. Some 10 years ago, "Die Hard 3" was on - Brucey enters the elevator escorted by four armed baddies... cut... the elevator door opens, the guys lie on the floor. That was the moment I ripped out my TV cord and threw it in the trash. That's why no TV programme has ever stained the virgin soul of my 42" up to this day ^_^ Sounds like Finland in the 1980's I still have a VHS - tape recording of "Alien" which was cut before it was aired in Finnish television. The spaghetti scene was mainly all cut away. "Ok, now its PG" :) Banning was not that common, but that one :
I taught the EU forbids the cutting of the film. At least that's why they don't cut films here anymore. No Sami, that means no violence was removed from the movie to get a lower age rating ;D This checkbox is there because Deadline is mainly a Horror magazine where gory details are very welcome, and also in Germany violence leads to "18+" rating much faster than in the US for example, also a lot of films get banned completly if they are considered unhealthy for youth. Actually they are a bit paranoid over here, but in exchange erotic content is mostly considered to be NOT harmful 8D The little that I understood, looked nice to me. "Cut: nein" No editor? So you used the Blender autocut to edit the film? :D Totally; it's just that good-old western-style. But many people of today's hectic world are annoyed by this... can't argue with personal taste! But thank you anyway, Angela :D Bah! I insist that the pacing is not a bug, but a FEATURE. ;) Seriously, congrats! Snowblind at BlenderNationBart Veldhuizen from www.blendernation.com kindly gave the opportunity to spread the word about Snowblind by having an interview with me. * bows at direction where Bart might locate * Check it out: http://www.blendernation.com/2010/11/10/snowblind-special-effects/ CommentsThis shot doesn't have comments. I could mail some Italian webzines......as soon as the SD version is available. Do you have a little press release package ready for them? Perhaps it should be translated into different languages for "local" use by your loyal fans? CommentsThanks, will get cracking on it ASAP! 8) Angela I have finally posted the press text! Check it out right here in this very task :D We also made the CGtalk frontpage :D http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?s=3d51ac20250af2603d476bd9f62e4832&f=59 Yep, pub round is a must! (I think I owe you a pint or two ;) )
Yeah totally Hannu... we should go out for some beers sometime again :D And thanks for your nice comments on the trailer =) Hey, a new trailer! That was great, best of 'em all I think. Nicely rolling fast cuts on the "like hell she is" part. It's been what, like couple of months since seeing the movie, visiting WaM festival & Assembly and already now seeing this gives nice feelings of nostalgia. I miss the summer! Yeah well I hope the trailer is okay, I'm not really that happy with it... but I had to make it myself on top of all the other work, hard to find motivated personell these days ;P Yeah, things are a bit slow nowadays, I assume it is due to the summer dip in combination with the difficult new start of school / business years... Hopefully things should improve thanks to Snowblind, and then around Christmas when people are off from school/work in the worst case! And, I am going to check out the new trailer right away! 8D Well Angela another good idea - in theory... The only problem is: I'm afraid wreckamovie is really very, very low-key at the moment. Not much going on here, and I guess a task like this wouldn't get much more participation than this one here. Good thing we have faithful power users we can rely on, like yourself :D Because WAM is obviously very important to us, we've plastered our materials with links to it... so I hope there will be a rise in activity over the next couple weeks, as Snowblind hopefully spreads... After all, this films existence is kind of a proof that there is also action, not just talk here ;P And because I'm serious about WAM, I've also updated the Snowblind production with the BRAND NEW LAUNCH TRAILER, so you guys are the first to see it, world exclusive ;D Check it out at the Snowblind main page =) Yeah, that should work, but as you said, having some facts to ramble would help much. 8) You could probably set-up a task for people to list the sites they have contacted, just like Energia did to promote their trailers when they were released: That's a brilliant idea! So far, we do have a posh-talk press release, but experience with this has been pretty bad... At one point, we sent out the press kit to 700 editors and got ZERO replies! So I think the way to go is using your own words to highlight the aspect of Snowblind that is the most relevant to the people you're talking to... But we should probably put up some facts here so you guys can build on those! Some facts for you to useHowdy Guys & Gals, I've written up some facts that you can translate into your own language - or even own words, it's more about the facts not the way it's written - to contact local blogs, forums or websites. Snowblind has many aspects to its production, so it's probably best just to highlight the ones most interesting to the peoople you're writing to, so the text doesn't get too long. You can offer editors free downloads of our stuff, in case they are interested they should just contact us and say who they're writing for and then we'll shell out a couple of free links. This costs us money from our hoster, but it seems freedom isn't really free these days ;D Of course we're very open to your suggestions regarding the text! Okay here goes:
Snowblind was produced entirely on private funds, and used the help of the online community "wreckamovie.com", which was funded by the makers of internet phenomenon "Star Wreck". After 18 months of hard work, Snowblind had it's world premiere on the 20st Emden International Film Festival on the 7th of June 2010. Since then, the film has toured several countries, winning "Best International Picture" at Belfast's Yellow Fever International Film Festival. As of now, Snowblind has been released world-wide on the internet, with the SD version being available for free through partners like YouTube, RapidShare and WasabiTV.com.au Thanks to the work of its community, Snowblind has subtitles in 7 languages available from the start which can be activated at the push of a button, thanks to YouTube's CC-feature. With this new way of distribution, independent film making has come full circle. The force behind a project powered by sheer ehthusiasm is made most apparent by the fact that a stereseoscopic 3D version is also in the works, nearing its completion. SNOWBLIND 3D is scheduled for a december release and will again be made available through internet and IPTV. Links:

Promo Ideas for the Snowblind Launch?People, after two years of hard work the day has finally come - Snowblind will be released on the web in the first week of November! CommentsYes you're right... and sounds good about the boards :D It is good that the original film is in english. It helps to spread the word to every nation, where people understand english. The subtitle task has made the film available for those interested in the genre but not so good fluency in english skills. I think in german speaking countries the novelty of the film using crowdsourcing in the process may be the one thing to mention. One other thing to mention is that the film is feature length. I have two finnish forums (bulletin boards) in my mind, where I am writing my opinions almost on daily basis, therefore it is ofcourse natural, that I post an article of the availability of Snowblind there. Your Festival Suggestions? Now that the screeners for Snowblind are ready, we could use your advice on what festivals we should approach. As you may know, most of the bigger festivals take a fee for entries, so we're rather looking for dedicated genre festivals that may have a real interest in showing Snowblind to the world. Any ideas? CommentsOkay we've uploaded the film to Maacindia 2010 now... Funnily enough, on the ftp site you could see the other folders that had already been uploaded. There was stuff like the new Robin Hood there in the "best international VFX feature" category, so I think our chances are close to zero. But as a wise man once said, "who fights, may lose - who doesn't fight, has already lost" ;P Cool, he can directly get in touch with us via snowblind(at)mangofilm.de ! Thanks :D I think the Indianapolis Film Festival would be interested and the executive director is a friend. How best would you like to proceed with a contact. sure, but that makes the film almost four minutes longer... and since it's already quite slow-paced, that could just push it over the border to boring. I guess I'll send them the normal version and if they insist, they can set playback to 24 ;P Just slow down your movie by 4% and it will be 24fps. That's a good idea Hannu! Especially because it's free and you can submit online - so we should definitely give it a shot :D I only wonder if they're serious about 24fps or if that's just some kind of a metaphor for film, like celluloid ;D Best Visual Effects Feature Film 2010: Studio/ Professional Category - INTL Thanks guys!
scifi conventions around the world:
Movie festivals (for this genre, perhaps):
I only did some google searching, perhaps someone has real info and possible experiences to help you to approach those festivals Na ja ... du kannst dich ja mal an Ralf Kemper wenden ... http://www.spontitotalfilm.com/sponti/festival/fest10/fest10_1.html Kassel ist zwar nicht der Nabel der Welt, aber soooo furchtbar ist es nun auch wieder nicht. ;) Fürs Fantasyfilmfest ist es möglicherweise schon zu spät.:
Best International Film at YFiFF Belfast!Yay, Snowblind won it's first award! The Yellow Fever International Film Festival, which took place at the end of august in Belfast, honored Snowblind as "Best International Film"! An unexpected surprise if I may say so... and the best of it; local born actor Stephen Patrick Hannah was there at the event to pick up the award! Oh the honor!!! Thank you Stephen, and thanks a million to the awesome crew of the YFiFF and their awesome audience, as the award is based on an audience vote if I got that right? EP1C W1N!!! :D Assembly 2010Hannu Hoffrén and me had the chance to give a presentation on the making of Snowblind at the Assembly 2010 in Helsinki - Hosted by Renderfarm.fi! Renderfarm is a service that allows network rendering of Blender 3D graphics on the home computer of volunteers - while your computer is idle, you can help make the next blockbuster! In our 1-hour presentation, it became clear that this is a most useful invention for indie film makers. While I basically summed up the entire process of making Snowblind, Hannu showed the accompanying Blender setups in real time and explained how the effects were put together. Of course, we also threw in some finished clips from the film from time to time, which attracted lots of people passing the renderfarm booth. We even passed around a couple of 3d glasses to show the 3D teaser for Snowblind which led to more excitement. At the end, there was still time to talk a bit about Vampyre Princess 3d - because this project surely will make good use of the brand new Renderfarm.fi implementation inside both Blender AND Wreckamovie! So this show was kind of a match made in heaven, it was great to meet a lot of wreckers and the nice renderfarm guys, plus we got to play some games, check out new technology and attend interesting presentation at the ArtTech seminars. Plus, Julius from Renderfarm.fi, Janus from B.U.R.P. (which is the rendering technology Renderfarm.fi is based on) and me had a nice little interview on AssemblyTV, which is broadcast on Finnish cable. Thanks everyone, was a great time, and see you at Assembly 2011 ;D CommentsJust shared it with you Kalle. I've never shared a folder under public / photos folders, but I guess they'll work the same. Hey Hannu, great photos! Can I have copies in my drop box folder please?!? ;D Nathan, actually my plan was to show that one frame, but in all that haste that day I messed up my layer & light settings and couldn't figure out in time what I was doing wrong. :P Here's some photos I took. http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/281834/1/asm2010?h=c67b5e Agreed, the breakdown of the sequence was very nice to follow. Would've loved to see Hannu try a quick render of the cave/smoke scene - even one frame :) But great it was! The presentations were great, especially Kalle and Hannu talking about Snowblind at the stand itself. The part where they explained how the sliding bike sequence was done with CGI was particularly impressive. Oh the stake.. completely forgot about it! Yes, it actually might explain the weird lack of hunger. :) But, now that you've mentioned all those.. have to go and quickly try to get some sleep before the urge to the fridge wins. Let me think.... I had: Lots of pancakes at the hotel, ice cream cone @ Linnanmäki and nice turkish pizza back at home... So I guess the nutritious&good part was that HUGE steak you had saturday night ;P About the weekend's diet, the only thing I had to eat on Sunday was an ice cream cone, some cheese crisps and almost one full litre of cacao drink. Wasn't hungry. This must mean the Hesburger & Pizza Hut meals are very nutritious & good for you, right? Yeah, was really nice to meet all you guys :D
Was nice to meet Kalle Max, and Hannu ofcourse. And a lot of other people too. Great photos, great event, great people, great weekend!! *battles with yearning* Great stuff! Will see you there Saturday! *smiles* |
