The SNOWBLIND 3D -team is looking for your ideas and comments. Join and show your support for SNOWBLIND 3D. Subtitles & Translation Task :D
DescriptionSince Snowblind is just about to be launched on the web (probably sometime in november) it's time to start thinking about translations... and what better place to do this at, but WRECKAMOVIE :D As of now, I have the original english language subtitles finished - I used Spruce Subtitle Format (.stl) as this has professional time codes. You can download the file above (somehow I wan't able to rename it to .stl but what the hey) and in case it's necessary, convert it to other formats using free software (see Thierry's post for example) If you want to translate the subs into your own language, just send me a PM and you'll get a link to a quicktime of Snowblind to work with. Please also make a post about your participation so others know which languages are being worked on. All results and questions should be posted here for others to proof-read and/or make suggestions =) A little explanation about the file format: These vertical lines are line breaks. We want to work with two lines max. Please pay attention to the maximum length that is used in the english version. Sometimes, I'm using a first line with a blank second line, which is filled at the next time code. This is to make the first line stand longer while adding new text, in cases where lines follow each other very quickly. That way, it's easier to read at your own pace. Please don't mess with this stuff, the time codes or the vertical lines ; ) Another topic is the translation of the chapters. In the original, the chapter's names are all film titles - but it probably won't make sense to use the title of the film in your language... so you'd rather have to think of something that fits the contents of that chapter. If there's a chance to come up with something witty or funny, please do it. For example: The scene where they play music is called "Heartbreak Kids" in english, in German I made it "Herzzerreißende Waisen" - which is a play on word which means "heartbreaking orphans" and "heartbreaking melodies" at the same time ;P Of course it's also possible that the english version has errors... feel free to change them or point them out! Have fun & thanks for your much appreciated help,
ShotsFrench subtitles (finally)Here we are. A bit late .. it took me a while. I do not think we have a Dutch version?I am not a native speaker, but I guess I could try and prepare a rough version (will take quite some time, mind you) and then see if some of my friends is keen to fix it... 8) CommentsWell I don't know either, but maybe you find someone like Jenny, who thinks it's fun ;P Thinking about this, I actually enjoyed making the German version too =) BTW the corrected english file (that matches the Vodo & YouTube versions of the film) is now in the main task. So you can grab that and download the film from Vodo for checking and stuff... Oh, I certainly will try. I just am not too sure they will be willing to work on it from scratch... Sure, would be great! Maybe you can try to talk some friends into doing the entire job, so you don't have to carry all that weight alone? CommentsAll the better if you have fun doing it :D The current version of the subtitles are in a .zip file in the main task now, and they match the version of the film downloadable from Vodo - so you can combine those to check your work. So this goes for the Dutch version as well, Angela =) Looking forward to doing it, translating is a lot of fun :-) *applauds* Way to go, Jenny! Here in Finland in the cinema subtitles use to be both in finnish and swedish on the screen and be presented at the same time, because both are official languags. I am eager to watch once again Snowblind using your swedish translation. Great! Looking forward to it :D Problem with the Italian subs?I hope the other languages do not have this kind of problem, but I was just checking out the video on YouTube, and noticed that something went wrong with the Italian accented letters. 8/ For example, the letter "e with grave accent" became a "c with caron" at 00:22:44:11. These "errors" seem to occur consistently thorough the entire document. It probably has something to do with the codeset of the text files that got messed up by the subtitle conversion tool, so I am posting a couple of screenshots to show an example of the errors, in the hope you can understand what the letters are actually supposed to look like. Not to mention... can we confirm if everybody is experiencing the same issue or I am the only person seeing this? And if others can see the problem, maybe somebody knows how to solve it? CommentsGood stuff! We'll check that out ASAP! ...how did you solve them, Thierry? Anyhow, Daniel Saarimäki seems to have been able to convert a *.rtf file properly for YouTube using Subtitle Edit http://www.nikse.dk/se/ So I am uploading a zipped .rtf file, just in case this can be used for some testing... We had these kind of trouble for VUU with lots of special characters, like ä,ö,ü,é,à,è etc... Thanks for reporting this in such detail! I suspect a problem with the document encoding... Funny thing is though, the russian one really only was some funny garbage characters when I opened it on my laptop, still on youtube it is displayed as correct kyrillic characters... well at least they look like russian and not like wingdings leftovers ;P Anybody got any idea? Are there programs to manipulate the typeset of a plain text file? Or could the error be created somewhere else in the process? Indonesian (revised subtitles)just revised the subtitles in some formats. CommentsSorry guys! We'll include that in the next update! It may be that also the finnish one is not the newest one... Yesterday I checked that the Indonesian subs is still using the old subs not the revised one. Italiano! (Finally!)Yeah, you read it right, I'm dooone!!! Actually took a few more hours than planned (again, lol) due to realizing I had messed up the file format during the translation. 8/ But on the bright side I read it all once again and edited some more bits and pieces. So hopefully this one will work properly! ...and now, off to sleep I go at last. ^^' CommentsCool, we can change that together with the other fixes... as soon as we find a solution, or rather; the source of the problem! Update: While hunting for accented letter errors, I found some sentences that needed a better translation... and even a forgotten English word... 00:22:24:07 , 00:22:27:20 , Come avevo cercato di spiegare... | ucciderei qualsiasi uomo tentasse di disarmarmi...
Zzzzz... erhm, what was that again? ^^' Seriously, that's good to hear! I've talked about the movie to a few people, who are eager to get a chance to correct all the mistakes I may have made. great Angela! get some rest, i convert them now. You will see them on youtube next week! Sorry to hear that, but it is like you say... the second time 'round, things mostly get better! Thanks a lot for spending half the night on this translation, we'll put it to good use right away :D SRT & STLI did convert the subtitles to proper STL and SRT files, like I used for our movie. CommentsReally that's still in there? The correct line is "What's the matter? It's only your husband!" But I guess since all you guys didn't complain, you've used google translate for that or something ;P And yeah Thierry, Angela's idea about Norwegian is quite good... Maybe you could even team up with Lord Fakenham, that would really be something to remember ^_^ By the way, while translating to Italian from the English version, I noticed that one of the lines appears to be in German?!? 576
If it wasn't spotted before, it may be worth checking that it didn't slip through the YouTube version. And, Thierry, maybe you could take care of a Norwegian version? 8) I have further revisioned those finnish subs according to the hints that Sami Laulajainen gave me after investigating the text. Latest edition of finnish subs is there: http://www.wreckamovie.com/system/shot_medias/0000/7464/SB-Subs--finnish..srt Fixed the srt files. Hi Thierry, thanks a lot. There still is a problem with the .srt files though, as the vertical lines do not produce a line break, instead the vertical line is displayed as a character. Could you check if it's possible to fix that as well? Thanks again! and @Seppo, the spaces around the commas causing a problem are curious though, as it works perfectly in DVD Studio... Thank you. I saw a problem for that conversion and VLC player that there was additional blanco letters between the numbers and commas. I edited those off and all worked fine. Thank you Thierry for your advice with conversion. CommentsNo need to be sorry Angela... after all this is voluntary work and we all know how life gets in the way ;D would be great to have them sometime mid-week though, especially knowing they're almost finished.... I think you too will be very pleased when you see how it all comes together :D They are almost finished, actually. I'm only missing the last bit. Just, the last week has been much more swamped than I thought would be. I even ended up spending some days away from home (and without access to a computer!) which was completely unplanned. So, as far as my feelings are concerned, yesterday was Sunday... 8/ Now, always assuming nothing weird happens *AGAIN* I may actually manage to finish them tonight... Again sorry! 8/ Hi Angela. Do you work on the subtitles for italy? We would be very happy if you could help ;) best regards
Nice, thanks :D Now it's official......YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! We just finished our closed beta test run of the YouTube version of Snowblind... and that subtitle feature is just amazing! So many languages at the press of a button... and all thanks to you people putting all that work into the translations! So now that this test run has been completed to everyone's greatest satisfaction, the thing will go online next week so you can check out that compressed awesomeness for yourselves =D Hugs & Kisses :* Commentswell done and congratulations. Finnish subs revised after inspectionSami Laulajainen suggested some changes in the previous shot for some lines of the subtitle and I applied now most of the changes he suggested. I divided some longer lines in to two lines and made shorter expressions to improve readability. The (almost) final version is now here. Thank you Sami! EDIT 28.10.2010, stl-format subtitles added CommentsOK, I must convert those to .stl -format, if you use that format. Ok, now it is there. The file ending is txt, because that wreckamovie did not let me use .stl The STL file is not on the server. can you please check, i´m about to put together the subtitle files for a subtitle package to download from the snowblind homepage. thank you!
I just had to change 2 lines after one more inspection...I changed the file that is linked to this shot to a new version. Coding of the scandinavian letters ä and ö seems to be the reason. I made a correction, let's see. Thanks, you're welcome. Works like a charm. Few spaces here and commas there for instance: 29 "- Älk?? ampuko!" is printed "-Ä,,lkää ampuko!" on my screen. Wonder why? |

Great work! We will implement the new subs ASAP - or should that be ASUB in this case? Anyway, thanks a million :D
